It all started with a major automobile crash when a driver crossed the double yellow line and plowed head on into my vehicle. He was going 40 mph as I, too, was going 40 mph!!! Very difficult to imagine.
“You should have died was the reaction from the fire official upon seeing the wreckage!!”
Trying to open crushed doors, unable to climb within my vehicle, waiting ever so painfully for help from someone!!! Ambulance, fire truck and police cars suddenly arrived!!! These folks assessed the situation and helped me kick my door to get it free and enable me to climb out!! Miraculously, I hurt horribly in my entire body but not bleeding.
Once removed from the vehicle, no one could fathom how I survived! All of the first responders were amazed, many calling it a miracle that I had not been killed!!!
After I was observed and treated by the medics and advised to go to the hospital, I gathered everyone’s name and phone numbers in case I needed follow-up. Eventually, I reached out to all emergency responders and thanked everyone for assisting me. All said they were glad to have been nearby to help and to observe the miracle that occurred! This horrendous experience led me to my creating a non-profit to encourage people to thank uniformed first responders for their help in a crisis.
How often have you driven by a roadway accident and wondered whether anyone thanked those who responded to the emergency? When I asked first what other persons did when they were rescued, their response was that some expressed gratitude but many did not. I learned that many uniformed personnel were actually thrilled to hear strangers thank them for assisting. Thus, I wanted to encourage others to do likewise in similar situations. And that is why I created “ManyThanks2U”—to have the public express gratitude for these heroic uniformed first responders.
